Joy once more filled the hearts of the residents of Lima Sands who early Monday morning awoke to the exciting news of the capture of another jaguar, this time in their area (turf).
A group of young men from Capoey, another Amerindian community on the Essequibo Coast was responsible for the successful capture of one animal a few weeks ago.
The recent capture is documented as the fourth case thus far for this year.
Residents said that some men living in Lima Sands constructed a trap some time ago and waited for an opportunity to lure the jaguar.
The roaming jaguars some of which were seen by residents in Lima Sands, Capoey and at Tapakuma have been killing and eating residents’ dogs and other domesticated animals.
Ever since the capture of the three jaguars between February and March last, staff of the Environmental Protection Agency have on each separate occasion ventured to the Region to transport the jaguars to a safer environment.
Before the capture of the jaguars, a foreigner visited the Mainstay/ Whyaka and Lima Sands areas and cautioned them not to harm the jaguars which are endangered.
