Due to the current weather pattern, and with the weatherman predicting a few more days of rain, Lennox Arthur and the Mayor’s Cup committee have decided to reschedule the start of the Annual Mayor’s Cup Football tournament at the Victoria Ground on the East Coast to Thursday from today.
Heavy rainfall over the past few days has left the ground water logged and while it was playable, with more rain forecast over the next two days, they decided to shift the action back by a few days to Thursday to protect the ground. Play will continue on Friday at the same venue.
The fixtures remain the same with a doubleheader which will see the Lindeners invading the East Coast as they hunt championship glory in this the 22nd edition of the tournament. At 6:00pm Mahaica of the East Coast clash with Eagles United of Linden in the curtain raiser, followed by Victoria Kings colliding with another Linden outfit in Milerock from 8:00pm in the nightcap.
The matches on Friday will see Golden Grove battling Grove Hi Tech of the East Bank Demerara, while Ann’s Grove go up against fellow East Coast team Buxton Bakewell.
The teams are battling for the Mayor’s Cup and cash prizes, with the top four set to claim respective $700,000, $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000.
