The Pizza Hut GCC ladies continued their onslaught of opposing teams in the inaugural Woodpecker Women’s
Hockey League after inflicting a 6-0 drubbing on Old Fort Shooting Stars on Monday, at the GCC ground, Bourda.
The match began in almost identical fashion as that of the previous afternoon when GCC faced the Hikers as GCC striker Kerensa Fernandes produced a bullet of a shot to give her team a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute.
Outstanding goalkeeping from young Sarafina Phillips in the goal for Old Fort managed to keep the GCC army at bay despite several shots on goal.
Old Fort’s ShonnetteFreeman defended relentlessly and Minsodia Culpepper provided the occasional offensive spark, but GCC tightened their grip of the game when Sonia Jardine scored in the 21st minute and Sandy Roopnarine three minutes later.
A brace of goals from veteran midfielder Tricia Fiedtkou and a single from striker Gabriella Xavier rounded out GCC’s six unanswered goals for the match.
The victory catapults Pizza Hut GCC further ahead of the field in the league with 15 points.
Hikers remain in second place with 6 points; the Under-21s are currently third with 3 points while Old Fort Shooting Stars are yet to secure points.
Matches continue this weekend at Saint Stanislaus College ground with the National Under-21 opposing Hikers at 16:00hrs.
