Pauline Hope testified on behalf of her brother, Nicholas Narine, who is accused of robbing Land Court Judge, Nicola Pierre, and her husband, last July, at their home in the gated community of Felicity, East Coast Demerara.
When Hope took the stand yesterday, she told Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul that her brother was at their Lot 117 Caesar Street, Agricola home at the time the Judge was robbed. When asked to recall what she did during the period July 8 and 9, 2015, the witness told the court that on July 8, 2015 she came home around 22:30hrs.
Hope recounted that her brother opened the door for her and she later went to bed. Around 01:45hrs the following day, Hope said that she woke up to use the washroom and saw her brother lying in bed. The cosmetologist explained that she, Narine and three other siblings sleep in the same room but on separate beds.
According to her, on July 14, 2015 police came to their home and arrested her brother and took him to the Diamond Police Station and then to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary. It was at CID Headquarters, the woman related that her brother told her he was picked out on identification (ID) parade.
“I call my mother and father and they come down and spoke to Officer Caesar. And he (Officer Caesar) told them there is nothing he can do about that because he (Narine) get pick out on an ID parade.”
Under cross examination by Special Prosecutor, Nigel Hughes the witness was asked if she had informed police that her sibling was home when the robbery occurred. In response, she told the court that she was unaware that she could have provided police with a statement.
Hope told the Prosecutor that she had informed her brother’s lawyer Adrian Thompson that he was at home when the robbery occurred and said that she did not speak to any officers during investigations in the matter.
Thereafter, Attorney Thompson indicated that he will bring a close to Narine’s defence.
Anthony David, the number four defendant who is also being represented by Thompson is expected to lead his defence today when the matter continues in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
