In the clash of the debutants in latest play of the Berbice Football Association / West Berbice League on Saturday last, Mahaicony ran away 2-0 winners over Hopetwon United Rangers at the Mahaicony Sports ground.
Mahaicony virtually wrapped up victory in the first half with goals from Keyon Halley in the 31st minute and Delbert Peters in the 43rd. Hopetown was reduced to 10 players when Leon Garraway was red carded in the 55th minute leaving the pitch without permission and abusive language.
Unfortunately the match was abandoned by the Referee with 15 minutes left to play.
On Sunday, at the Rosignol ground also known as “Dead Valley”, home team Rosignol United faced off with old rivals Paradise Invaders FC. The match saw end to end action but neither team was able to score.
The best two chances of the match fell to Rosignol United, where Akeem Rigby rocked the cross bar of Paradise Invaders in the first half and again in the second half. Marlon Nicholson found himself in a one on one situation with the Paradise keeper but he was denied the opportunity to score.
Matches will continue tomorrow at the Mahaicony Sports ground from 16:00hrs with Mahaicony taking on Rosignol United. Sunday’s double header at the Rosignol ground brings together Hopetown United Rangers and Paradise Invaders in the feature match which will be preceded by an Under-16 clash between Rosignol United and Paradise Invaders from 14:00hrs.
