The remains of first female to hold the reigns as President of the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Fiona Harris was yesterday cremated at the Memorial Gardens Crematorium, Princess Street and Louisa Row following a stirring service at the North Ruimveldt Church of the Nazarene.

The remains of Fiona Harris (inset) is taken out of the Church for the Memorial Gardens Crematorium yesterday afternoon.
Harris, who would have celebrated her 38th birthday tomorrow passed away recently following a brief period of illness.
Family, relatives and friends came out in numbers to pay their final respects to an individual who was remembered as a friend and encourager.
In eulogizing Harris, Pastor Tito Bourne reflected on the life of Harris from her early childhood until the time of her passing. She was remembered as a trailblazer and someone who displayed a high degree of tenacity in life.
The former Winfer Gardens and President’s College student was a sprinter who competed in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay as well as field events which underscored her love for sports.
But her most memorable career in the field of sports was when she hit the stage as a body builder, making her mark as an intense competitor in Body Fitness and Body Building, Pastor Bourne, reminisced.
Harris was a two-time Ms. Guyana Body Building champion and one of Guyana’s best during her days of competition. She also competed in the Ms. Body Fitness category and would have done well in a number of other competitions apart from the national marquee events.
Her highest competition would have been the Central American and Caribbean Championships that were held in Guyana in 2004 when she made the finals in the Ms. Body Fitness class but did not medal.
She then turned her attention to sports administration, starting as a committee member before taking over as treasurer and then rising to the coveted post of President, thus becoming Guyana’s first female to ever lead the GABBFF.
Bourne noted that the greatest achievement of Harris during her older days would have been caring for her daughter as a single parent.
