Eight teachers, drawn from across the Lower Corentyne district and four outstanding retired teachers were honoured by the cricket teams of the RHTYSC, MS during the Club’s 26th annual award ceremony last Sunday at the
ST. Francis Community Developers Head Office. The teachers were honoured under the Club’s highly successful Say Yes to Education campaign by the Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females and Gizmos and Gadgets First Division and Under-23 Cricket Teams.
Those honoured under the Scotia Bank Tribute to Outstanding Teachers Award Programme were Rose Hall Town Nursery School – Seeranie Baratt, J.C. Chandisingh Secondary – Rebeka Dasrat, Kimberly Veerapen – Corentyne Comprehensive High School, Schyon Alexander – Bagot – Rose Hall Town Primary, Melinda Ramkin – Port Mourant Secondary, Mohanie Harrycharran – Lower Corentyne Secondary, Melissa Nizamudin – Tain Primary and Tameshwar Bruce – Williamson and Selochanie Pasaram of Region 5 along with Colin Bynoe and Armin Dean – Mendonca were honoured under the Food for the Poor/ Berbice River Bridge Tribute to Retired Teachers programme.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTYSC, MS places special emphasis on honouring educators as they are the ones who mold the minds of our future leaders.
Foster noted that the club strongly believes that education is the Key to success and that every effort must be made to make sure that every child fulfils his/her true potential in the classroom. He congratulated the eight outstanding teachers on being honoured as Teacher of the Year 2015 for their schools and urged them to always be role models to their students.
The long standing RHTYSC, MS Executive also expressed gratitude to the retired officials for their combined 140 years’ service to the educational sector and issued on appeal to them to share their vast experience with the younger generation of Teachers.
President David Granger, who handed over the awards to all twelve awardees, congratulated them on their service to Guyana. Each of the Awardees received a trophy, medal and a collection of gifts. The Club would like to express gratitude to the Berbice River Bridge Company, Food for the Poor (Guy) INC and Scotia Bank for their sponsorship.
