Openers Ronaldo Renee and Raymond Perez slammed centuries as Demerara and Berbice played to a tame draw when the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board/Hand-in-Hand three-day inter county U19 tournament
concluded yesterday at Everest.
Resuming on their overnight 170 with out lost; Renee and Perez batted with little difficulty as Demerara declared just after Lunch on 351-2, in reply to Berbice first innings score of 198. The duo frustrated the Berbicians whose fielding was below par, for the entire morning session.
Renee began the day on 89 and soon reached his century with an exquisite cover driven boundary off Joshua Wade. He achieved the feat off 186 balls in 281 minutes.
Perez, who started on 64, continued to bat with caution and inched his way to his century reaching the milestone off 313 balls in 370 minutes.
The pair extended their partnership to 294 before Perez who hit six fours was caught off Asif Ally for 113.
Demerara sent in Sherfene Rutherford to step up the scoring rate, and along with Renee took the score to 251 before Ruhterford was lbw to Raymond Vantahil for 46.
The confident Renee smashed Wade and Ally for boundaries while Rutherford hit Joshua Harrichand for fours. Rutherford was ruthless as he smashed four fours and three sixes in his knock while Renee who brought up his 150 off 261 balls and hit seventeen fours was left unbeaten on 165; Demerara declared after Rutherford was dismissed.
Needing 154 to make Demerara bat a second time, Berbice quickly lost Adrian Sukwah who was bowled by Keshram Seyhodan for nine with the score on 28. Sasenarine Sookoo reached the boundary twice before he was lbw to leg spinner Ershad Ali for 22, but Matthew Hardyal and Joel Seitaram batted until 17:00 hrs when play was called off as Berbice finished on 93-2. Hardyal batted for 168 minutes and struck two fours in his unbeaten 22 while Seitaram made 21 not out in 120 minutes. Seyhodan finished with 1-6 and Ali 1-12. Renee was named man-of-the-match.
