General Manager of the bridge, Rawlston Adams, in confirming the incident, disclosed that the woman arrived in a taxi on the East Bank Demerara end of the structure. She started to walk across the bridge, but suddenly climbed on top and jumped off. Fortunately, the tide was low and she landed in mud.
Passing motorists saw her jump and immediately went to her rescue.
According to the bridge official, there were no threats of drowning as the water was low.
The woman is said to be in her twenties and is married. It was not immediately clear what spurred her to jump.
In December 2014 and January 2015, two women jumped to their deaths from the bridge.
With thousands of commuters crossing the bridge daily, the management has been moving to tighten up security.
