Annual T&G Outreach U13 Interschool football competition in Berbice…
The finalists have been decided as action continued in the annual Trinidad and Guyana Sports Club and Outreach Programme (TGSCOP) U13 Inter Secondary School football competition for school in the NA/ Canje district.
The tournament, which is being held at the All Saints Scott Church ground in New Amsterdam, is being played in collaboration with the Hearts of Oak Masters Football club.
The teams into the finals are Defending Champion Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) and Vryman’s Erven Secondary (VESS).
In semi final play BEI thumped Canje Secondary School (CSS) 4-1 with Keron Hamilton leading the way with a double in the 12th and 28th minutes, while Shamar Clements and Daniel Welcome netted one each. CSS goal came off the booth of Jevon Persaud.
In the other semifinal, VESS squeezed past Berbice High School (BHS) 1-0 with Tyrick Ogleton scoring.
Earlier, in the final round of preliminary matches, there were wins for VESS and BHS. Results of those games showed BEI winning from VESS 1-0 with Nicholas Chase being on target. In another match BHS eased past Tutorial Academy Secondary 2-0. Scoring for BHS were Charles Williams and Jeffery Adams.
The top school in the competition will be presented with the Trinidad and Guyana (T&G) Sports Club and Outreach Programme trophy and 15 gold medals, while the runner up will collect a trophy and 15 silver medals. Trophies and other incentives will also be given to the other participating teams. A number of individual prizes will also be presented including the most valuable player, best striker, best defender, best midfielder, best goalkeeper, most promising player(s), and most goal scorer. Players will also be presented with jerseys, trunks, shin pads, hoses, boots and balls among other things.
The competition is sponsored by Isaac Daniel a resident of Trinidad and a regular visitor of Guyana who started to organise the activities over a decade ago.
The tournament is being coordinated by former national players Neil “Grizzly” Humphrey and Kenrick Bowry. (Samuel Whyte)
