An Albouystown resident was jailed for three years by Magistrate Annette Singh after police found him with an improvised pipe and one gram of cocaine and marijuana.
A handcuffed Shawn Peters of Lot 183 Callendar Street, Albouystown, Georgetown could not contain his smile as reporters snapped his picture while he was headed to the courtroom.
The 28 year old pleaded guilty to the charge that said that on Tuesday April 12 at Albouystown he had in his possession one gram of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
He is also alleged to have, on the same day, one gram of cannabis sativa (marijuana). The defendant who was unrepresented by an Attorney also accepted that on the same day he had in his possession a utensil used in connection with smoking that is to say an improvised pipe.
Police say Peters is well known to the police and last Tuesday ranks sought to perform a random search on him in his home town. Court heard the man agreed to the search and the ranks discovered parcels wrapped in paper with the drugs and utensil concealed in his pockets.
After hearing the facts from prosecutor Michael Grant, Peters asked for a ‘light’ prison sentence “if you could just give me some community work yuh worship” he said, “ah beggin for a light sentence.”
However the magistrate sentenced Peters to three years in prison along with a $6,000 fine for the utensil charge, $10,000 for the cocaine and $3,000 for the marijuana charge. He was also ordered to complete 15 hours of community service. All the sentences will run concurrently.
