The Berbice Volleyball Association in its continued drive to keep players active and spread the game throughout the county and at the same time unearth new talent, has organised a one day volleyball extravaganza for today at the Port Mourant Community Centre all weather court.
Action is expected to serve off at 09:00 hrs and all the top teams in the county are expected to be in action. Over 300 players are set to take part in the day’s activity with 10 courts being used.
A number of teams are expected from the Orealla/Siparuta area which are expected to field teams in the male, female and junior categories, Defenders and Rollers are expected to make their return, Three Door Strikers, Port Mourant Training centre 1, 2 and 3; Corriverton Jets, Black Birds, Jemini and Strikers of Black Bush Polder, Albion United, Port Mourant Jaguars, Tain Humanitarian, No 52 Survivors, Berbice High School, Skeldon Line Path Secondary. Two new teams in NO73 village and Kendall’s/ Union of No 19 are also expected to participate. A number of the teams will be represented by senior junior and female players.
According to BVA president Levi Nedd an official programme will be unveiled for the day which will include prayers, various forms of volleyball, poetry and dance. At the same time the activity will be used to shortlist and finalise the selection of teams to represent the county in upcoming tournaments both locally and overseas. Teams will be shortlisted in the junior males, senior females, U23 males and B division categories.
At the end of the activity prizes will be given to the outstanding performers. (Samuel Whyte)
