Kelvin La Fleur, a traffic cop, who was struck down last Monday while trying to assist schoolchildren, to cross the Eccles, East Bank Demerara Public Road, died yesterday.
The 25-year-old policeman died at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was rushed back there early yesterday in an ambulance after complaining of experiencing severe pain.
La Fleur had sustained injuries to both hands and a broken right leg.
This newspaper was told that the policeman was directing traffic near the traffic light at Eccles and had stopped the traffic to allow schoolchildren to cross the road. It was at this point that he was struck down.
The driver of the car was arrested following the accident while La Fleur was taken to the hospital. He was treated and sent away but was taken back to the hospital after complaining about severe pain. He later succumbed.
