Patentia Secondary outlasted four other schools to win the West Zone of the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA)-organised Tournament which was played on Wednesday on the West Bank of Demerara.
A release from the Association stated that Patentia emerged winners ahead of West Demerara Secondary, L’Aventure, Professional Learning Institute and Leonora in a competition that was played in a round robin format, enabling the teams to match skills against each other.
In attendance were representatives of the DVA and the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) including Presidents Trevor Williams and John Flores respectively and they both expressed elation that the sport has returned to the schools and this development they said is a good one for a spirited revival in Demerara.
The two influential figures in the sport also noted the support of sponsors and extended thanks to all the entities and individuals who have pledged their assistance to help resuscitate the game in Demerara.
The DVA partnered with Angcam Marine Supplies which is located on the second floor or Lot 1955 Paria Highway and a major supplier of marine products in Guyana.
Williams said the DVA was extremely grateful for the entity’s support and hoped that at the end of the tournament they would have seen enough to encourage further assistance.

The DVA is also extremely happy to have Digicel and the GVF as partners in this venture as their contributions will help to ensure that the finals is grand and fitting for the resuscitation of school volleyball in Demerara.
