Dear Editor,
I am a very private person, but I was motivated to do this piece by an article in the Kaieteur News by Frederick Kissoon titled, “Joe Harmon and my wife; the AFC and my country.” I am not even a millionaire in the Guyanese context borrowing a line from Mr. Kissoon and that is the reality. I was in the campaign team in 2007 but it was in 2011 general and regional election that I contribute significantly. In the 2011 General and Regional Election, I used my own money to pay activist to work for the AFC and this, the Minister of Business in the Coalition Government is cognizant of. I was on the road with Mr. Gaskin soliciting funds for the election campaign. I single handedly organized and arranged public meeting in every village on the East Bank and was one of the speakers at those meeting even though I never considered myself a public speaker. One of the meetings in Herstelling Mr. Kissoon was a speaker. I spoke to Mr. Kissoon at the meeting so he knows about my participation
Mr. Editor, the Town Clerk, Mr. Royston King was installed as the Town Clerk by the Coalition Government. I have made significant contribution to the AFC pre-coalition period. I never intended or looking for a pay back. I believe in principles and the upholding of the law and that is the pull factor that brought me in to the AFC. I applied and permission was granted for me to erect a stall between Robb Street and North Road. The construction cost is a little over 3/4m dollars, all the materials have been acquired and the stall almost complete. Now I was told to cease all work on the stall and dismantle the structure.
I have nine persons in my employment; none are supporter of the PPP. Five are young African youth that this Coalition Government promised job. This is not a case what my country can do for me but what I can do for my country. In addition to providing employment I will be contributing for that little space $300,000.00 annually to the city coffer. I am puzzled to sort out the rational; behind the decision making process whereby approval is granted for construct a stall and after the work is almost completed instruction is issued to demolish.
