Police said a farmer who was shot by the police after he allegedly stabbed and killed a GPF officer at Matthews Ridge was remanded to prison yesterday.
Charged with the murder of 52-year-old Police Sergeant Leonard La Rose, Dennis Marks (no address given) was not required to plead when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer the murder charge.
Marks, 32, who sustained a bullet wound to his left foot, had to be seated on a chair while police officers carried him into the courtroom.
According to police reports, he murdered the Sergeant who was on duty on March 1, at Holes, Matthews Ridge North West District. It was reported that the accused attacked police ranks with a knife while they were investigating him for a rape charge he had in court.
Police said that the Sergeant was stabbed to the neck and was later pronounced dead at Pakera Hospital, Matthews Ridge while his perpetrator was shot in the left foot. Marks was remanded to prison. His case will be called again at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on May 3.
The slain Sergeant was stationed in the interior since 1999 and resided at Wisroc, Linden.
