After being parked for over a month, the David ‘G’ school bus No. 4 commenced work on Tuesday last.
The 50-seater bus is being used to transport children from as far as Lighttown,
East Bank Berbice, to schools in New Amsterdam.
The bus begins its journey from Lighttown around 06:30 hours only to stop at Kortberaadt Village in front of Junior’s shop. It then proceeds to pick up children at the various bus sheds in Sister’s, Brothers, Lonsdale, Rotterdam, Edinburgh and Glasgow villages, before driving all the way to New Amsterdam.
The first stop is Overwinning Primary, then 48 Stanleytown, 39 Stanleytown, Philadelphia Street, L.F.S Burnham Street and the last stop is at Berbice High School.
In the afternoons the bus leaves Berbice High School at around15:00hrs and picks up at the same drop-off points.
Residents expressed satisfaction and gratitude for having the bus, since it eases the transportation costs of sending their children to school.
Kaieteur News understands that there was some controversy over the selection of a driver for the bus and that this caused the delay in going into operation.
The present driver, Gordon Sam, has issued an appeal to the children to come out on time and to assemble at the specified bus sheds, since it would not be convenient for him to make stops at every home.
Children from all across Guyana are now benefiting from President David Granger’s 3Bs programme.
