A suspect charged with fatally shooting Linden bus driver, was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared
to answer a murder charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Terry Cromwell,23, called “Jim Carey,” of King Edward Street, Albouystown, was not required to plead when the charge was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore. It is alleged that he murdered Elwin Lorrimer on March 21, last, in Georgetown.
Prosecutor Simone Payne told the court that on the day of the incident the accused was seen shooting the driver. It was later reported that the victim sustained injuries and was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The defendant was later placed on an ID parade where he was positively identified by a witness. He was later arrested and charged with the offence.
He is expected to return to court on April 29.
According to reports, Lorrimer was a former teacher and pastor of Lot 184 Carter Street, Kara Kara, Linden. He died on March 22, last, at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), hours after he was shot at the Linden bus park, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown by two men.
The attack occurred around 21:00 hours, while he was standing outside his minibus seeking passengers. The police, in a statement, said that two men drove up on a motorcycle and one of them discharged rounds at Lorrimer and they rode away.
Lorrimer was hit to his chest and left foot. He was subsequently admitted to the GPH, where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
