A 50-year-old clothes vendor who the police caught flushing marijuana down his toilet, was yesterday jailed for three years. He was found guilty for the possession of cannabis by City Magistrate Judy Latchman at the conclusion of a trial in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Milroy Abrams, of Lot 14 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, had 18 grams of cannabis in his possession on December 30, 2015.
According to court facts, the police received information about Abrams selling the narcotics and went to his home to conduct a search.
However, Abrams was reluctant to open the door to let the lawmen in. His brother, who is a police officer, opened the door and Abrams was seen by police flushing the illicit substance down the toilet. Some of the drug was retrieved and officers searched his room and found 11 grams of cannabis in a calabash.
The convict had pleaded not guilty to the charge when he made his first court appearance on December 31, last. At that court hearing, his Attorney had contended that no search warrant was presented when police went to his client’s home.
