Patron, Management and Members of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS would
like to offer their profound congratulations to the West Indies Male and Female cricket Teams on their historic achievements of winning the ICC 20/20 World Cup, the club stated in a release. We would also like to specially mention our own Shemaine Campbelle who has fulfilled her lifelong dream to be part of a World Champion Team and to be a World Champion herself.
The Club is delighted at Shemaine’s and her teammate’s achievements and it is our hope that this would inspire all cricket Clubs in Guyana and the Caribbean to invest more into female Cricket. It is unbelievable that the RHTYSC, MS is the only cricket Club in Guyana that has a female cricket team and which seeks to allow our talented girls to fulfill their potentials. Female national players like Shemaine, Erva Giddings, Melanie Henry, Plaffina Millington, Sheeneta Grimmond and Shakiba Gajnabi are forced to play against males to develop their skills and it is our hope that the Berbice and Guyana Cricket Board would place more emphasis on female cricket, the release stated.
As we celebrate our double world championships, it is very important to remind ourselves that West Indies cricket is still in crisis and we should not fool ourselves that we have turned the corner. All of us involved in West Indies cricket from the President, Directors, local Country and county executives and Club Officials must redouble their efforts and dedicate themselves to making a positive difference. We must serve cricket to the best of our ability and must do so honestly and without seeking personal rewards for ourselves.
The RHTYSC, MS would also like to salute our fellow Berbicians Tremayne Smartt on the success as well, along with Darren Sammy and his team for making all of us proud to be West Indians. The Club on Sunday 17th of April would honour Shemaine Campbelle in a special way for being part of the World Champions. May God continue to bless and guide West Indies cricket to more success.
