A 37 year-old labourer was yesterday remanded to prison for the murder of Cuban National, Joel Perez Laffita, whose body was found on the roadway at Providence, East Bank Demerara, last month.
Lawrence Rowe appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for allegedly killing Laffita, on March 8, during the course of a robbery.
Rowe, of Parker Street Providence, was ordered to return to court on April 25, by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, for reports.
According to reports, the Cuban was an engineer and arrived in Guyana the day before he was killed. When Laffita’s body was found by police, cash and other belongings were recovered. It was reported that the man was coming from a nearby hotel when he was attacked.
