In another good gesture for the development of cricket across Guyana, the Young Warriors Cricket Club from Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice travelled all the way to Zeeburg on the West Coast of Demerara to assist the club in a grand fundraiser. The match was a 25 overs affair with the visitors winning by 6 wickets with one over to spare.
Zeeburg Sports Club won the toss and batted under cloudy conditions and compiled a challenging 155 all out in 24 of their allotted overs. That is after a poor start being at one stage 54 for 5. Baldinder Shivpersaud topscored with 29. Bowling for YWCC, there were two wickets a piece for Suresh Dhani, Jermin Henry, Kassim Khan and Seon Hetmyer.
YWCC in rely lost their star batsman Shimron Hetmyer early, caught off Ricardo Adams. However, a second wicket partnership of 100 runs between Seon Hetmyer and Linden Austin, both former national under-19 players, put the visitors on course. Seon Hetmyer finished with 58, Austin 38 and Kassim Khan 23 n.o.; Adams took 3 wickets.
The organizers thanked the YWCC for willingly accepting the invitation to participate so that the club can raise some funds for the benefit of the community. YWCC in reply thanked the host for the invitation and promised to assist any club in the country to raise funds for the development of our cricketers.
The Young Warriors Cricket Club will be heading this weekend to Leguan for matches in that lovely island.
