Teams have begun arriving for today’s commencement of the 2nd Annual Faye Joseph – organised
International Dominoes Competition which is being run under the auspices of the Georgetown Dominoes Association (GDA).
According to Organising Secretary of the tournament Mark Wiltshire, who spoke via telephone yesterday, teams from Puerto Rico, the USA and Barbados were the first set of countries to arrive for the four-day competition which is being played, at 1222-23 Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt.
The tournament the brainchildof Joseph is regarded as an international event and has received the blessings from the World Dominoes Council (WDC).
Wiltshire informed that the Pullorama will be done at 19:30 hrs today while there will be a March Past involving Public Works Minister David Patterson and former Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green.
In excess of US$10,000 will be up for grabs during the competition along with trophies and individual prizes for outstanding players.
The winning team will receive US$5,000 along with the corresponding trophy, while the second, third and fourth placed teams will collect US$2,500, US$1,500 and US$1,000.
The cost to enter the tournament is US$200 or GY$40,000.
