Guyana’s nominee, Assistant Superintendent of Police Althea Scipio, has been selected to undergo FIFA’s
Female Security Officers’ Training that is scheduled to be conducted later this year. Ms. Scipio, Secretary of the Georgetown Football Association, was nominated by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
FIFA has indicated a willingness to enlarge and enhance its pool of trained FIFA Female Security Officers and had invited member countries to submit nominations. This initiative is as a result of a concerted effort by FIFA to increase the number of female security officers.
According to FIFA, as the selected female security officers will be assigned to FIFA’s competitions, they will then, in return, be able to further officiate within their Member Association and even conduct security training sessions at home, which offer a win-win situation for everyone involved.
This is the first time Guyana has nominated a female representative to the FIFA Security Officer programme and its representative will participate in a FIFA-organized “security workshop” for both males and females. Among the areas which will be covered in the training are: FIFA Stadium Safety and Security Regulations; Roles and responsibilities of FIFA security Officers, FIFA World Cup Safety and Security Handbook, Presentations from other FIFA’s functional areas and programmes.
ASP Scipio has over seven years’ experience in the security field, serving as Officer-In-Charge of major sporting and other international and national activities including football and cricket. She has also served in the capacity of Community Relations Officer, Media Relations Officer, Officer in charge of ‘A’ Division Secretariat, and Officer in Charge of ‘A’ Division Management Information Unit (Crime Analyst). (GFF)
The only savior of Guyana.
