Berbice Under-15 cricket champions Rose Hall Town Farfan and Mendes started on a successful note,
their defence of their title when they defeated Tamarind Root and Albion on first innings in the 2016 Tenelec Under-15 Tournament. The team under the captaincy of Chanderpaul Govindan are seeking to emulate the Kevlon Anderson led RHT Farfan and Mendes Team which won the 2015 title.
Playing at the Hampshire ground, they bowled out Tamarind Root for 99 in 31 overs as only Kevin Ramsammy 16 and Ryan Mahadeo 14 not out reached double figures. Bowling for the visitors, Kristoff Williams took four wickets for eight runs from six overs, Tyreece Sealey 3 for 20 and skipper Govindan 2 for 24. Needing to score 100 for first innings points, RHTFM rattled up 144 for 9 as Sealey returned with the bat to top-scored with an attractive 57 and received support from his captain Govindan 25, Kelroy Fraser 22 and Vijay Gopilall 15. Tamarind Root were 8 for 1 in their second innings when stumps were drawn. Govindan claimed the only wickets to fall for two runs.
Against Albion at the Area ‘H’ Ground, the home team fielded after losing the toss. The visitors were bowled out for 64 in 39.2 overs with only R. Karim 11, G. Ramesh 13 and F. Naidu offering any resistance to the bowling of Tyreece Sealey 16-2-5-24-5, Chanderpaul Govindan 8-1-28-02 and Matthew Pattaya 3-1-10-02.
RHTFM in response, raced to 163 for 5 off just 30 overs as twelve years Mahendra Gopilall stroking a brilliant 80 with thirteen well struck boundaries, while Govindan continued his impressive all round performance with a polished 55 with six boundaries. Bowling for Albion, I. Shazam was expensive but claimed two wickets for 76 runs from 10 overs. With a deficit of 79 runs Albion were 56 for 5 in their second innings when stumps were drawn with H. Sukhai 17 and G. Rameh 10 not out at the crease. VijayGopilall and Tyreece Sealey finished with 2 for 6 and 2 for 20 respectively.
RHTFM have now qualified for the Quarter-finals.
