The bullet-riddled body of a man who was wanted for murder and convicted on charges of shooting at a cop, was found in the Le Repentir Cemetery at around 06.00 hrs today.
Police identified the victim as Steve Mohamed, called ‘Cheesy,’ of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara. His body bore at least six bullet wounds, including one to the head.
Detectives reportedly found no bullet casings at the scene. They believe that the victim was slain elsewhere.
In December 2015, police had issued a wanted bulletin for Mohamed for the murder of Quacy Thompson, who was slain on July 15, 2014, at Mowasi Landing, Konawaruk.
Thompson was involved in an argument with two men during which he was stabbed and shot to his body.
Last February, while still on the run, his alleged killer Steve Mohamed, was sentenced to 10 years in his absence on other charges. He was also fined $200,000 at the end of the trial.
The charges read that on October 6, 2014, at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, Mohamed, with intent to resist arrest, discharged a loaded firearm at Sergeant Leon Lindo to prevent him from lawfully arresting him.
That same day, at Diamond, Mohamed had in his possession a .380 live round of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence. He also had in his possession a Taurus revolver, two .38 live rounds of ammunition, a .32 live round and two .38 spent shells.
Chief Magistrate McLennan dismissed the arms and ammunition charge against the accused but convicted him on the other charges.
