Farm and Sandpipers registered victories when the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association 50-over
tournament continued on Sunday.
Host Farm defeated Combined United by 55 runs. Farm recovered to post 222 all out in 42.2 overs after they were inserted on a difficult pitch. Lionel Mangra struck two fours and one six in scoring 47, while Ricky Debidayal made 36, Asif Ilahi 30 not (1×4,2×6) and Amir Aziz 24. Debidayal and Ilahi added respectability to their total with a last wicket stand of 76; left arm spinner Ravindra Sarabjeet who bowled with control and variation grabbed 3-22 while Imtiaz Ghanie claimed 3-36.
Combined United threatened somewhat before they fell for 169 in 28.2 overs. Asif Ishack batting at number 11 slammed three fours and seven sixes in an even half century before he was caught at slip off Shivram Persaud. Keisho Ramsarran struck 39 with six fours while Rajesh Bankay made 32 (6×4). Elvis Niles who maintained a steady line and length bagged 5-35, Ilahi had 2-22 and Persaud 2-39.
At Laluni Sandpipers overcame Nandy Park by 60 runs. Batting first, Sandpipers managed 183 all out in 38.3 overs. Gavon Charles clobbered nine fours and one six in a top score of 66, while Michael Sultan captured 6-31 off eight overs and Mark Rhobe took 2-37. Nandy Park were bowled out for 123 in 33.2 overs in reply. N. Dhanraj scored 35 (5×4,1×6) as Oluemi Sandy snared 5-13 from eight overs, Errol Greaves had 2-24, Colin Benn 3-32. (Zaheer Mohamed)
