City Magistrate Annette Singh imposed a three years’ jail sentence on a Kitty resident after he was found guilty of trafficking marijuana, at the conclusion of a trial in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Collie Smith, 41, of Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, had 19.5 grams of marijuana in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on December 12, 2015.
According to court facts, Smith was at ‘Guinness Greatest of the Streets’ Football at the National Park Tarmac, when he was seen by police with a quantity of marijuana in his hands. He was told of the offence committed and escorted to the Alberttown Police Station where the drug was weighed in his presence and amounted to 0.5 gram.
Smith was then searched by an officer at the station where it was discovered that he had 19.5 grams of marijuana in his pants pocket.
Meanwhile, in another case, a Tiger Bay resident was sent to jail for six months for an armed robbery he committed at the Kingston, Georgetown Seawall.
Junior Christie, 26, robbed Adrian Alleyne of a cell phone, a Scotia Bank card among other items, all totaling $17,000 – property of the said Alleyne.
The robbery was committed at knife point.
Christie was also found guilty of the offence by Magistrate Singh.
Police Corporal, Adunni Inniss presented the prosecution’s case.
