Dear Editor,
I once heard someone referred to these high-tec multi feature cell phones as the book of good and evil. No one can deny the quantum-leap in mass communication and lighting speed dissemination of information globally. Gadgets, cell-phones, smart phone, I-phone, tablet, I-pad and a host of others have swarmed and taken over the world like a plague. It is unthinkable that there is a country that isn’t affected by it, inconceivable of any home in today’s modern world without them. This is the mode of the world in which we live today; a fantastic development that has dawn upon us and which we can’t shrug off, turn a blind eye to or wish away or else we become shackled.
I tell you these gadgets/instruments are like magic – like a genie “your wish is my command”, almost anything imagine could be done by them, they are programmed to the very last scintilla on almost every topic/subject like a God! The key and operative word is download – by the way, they are programmed with one called “Siri” who answers all your questions.
The million dollar question here is how do we check and prevent the minds of our infants from being systematically polluted? How can we avoid them feeding from this technological trough of debauchery? I heard someone saying that one positive of these high-tech phones is that they keep our young people occupied and out of trouble! I fail to see that their obsession is not so much for positive elevation but moreso for being a participant feeding off a wellspring of orgies. But lo! as said above our children are light years ahead of us, with a touch of the finger they can make fools of us, did we bargain for this, hell no! but this is what happens when one is not in control of circumstances surrounding their existence. Then is when you know that you are cooked, dwarfed and overwhelmed by forces/technology in that you are led by the nose. Yes, all these fancy gadgets – which by the way are changing with every sun-set, that we show off and feel proud and privileged that we can acquire them at any cost, boast about their infinite features which is indeed mind-boggling but sadly those fine infinite features lag behind the preponderance of
Editor, I’m not making a claim at being self-righteous no! if only these sexual perverted videos were only within the reach of grown adults – exclusive adult audience – then maybe there would not have been the need for much concern, but the space they inhabit is so pervasive even when casually playing around, unintentionally, an accidental touch and they are in your face as the brother said happened with him which henceforth the floodgates of wanton carnal bombardment is flung open – mental poison that defile and deform the minds of our children. And this is one reason and unfortunately so for our young men and women who have been influenced have accept to indulge for fun or money, then you know that they are lost souls. Then we have to wonder aloud what is this world coming to. But wait a minute it is said that good and evil are of the same source, the binary pair that is package with progress/development – goes together like a horse and carriage; so then where does that leaves us? Chasing our tail? Baying at the moon?
Caleb Carr author of the “Alienist” quoted in it from one William James “whilst part of what we perceive comes through our senses from the objects before our eyes, another part (and this may be the larger part) always comes out of our own minds”. I’m confused.
