President, Brigadier David Granger has extended sincere condolences to Leader of the Opposition, former President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, whose sister Ms. Oma “Shanta” Jagdeo, died on Sunday. She was 57.
The President, in a letter addressed to Dr. Jagdeo, said, “The loss of a loved one, especially someone who has been devoted to your care and well-being for almost your entire life, is always a painful experience. I pray that God’s comforting Grace will be with you in this your moment of grief.”
Ms. Jagdeo collapsed in her home that Mr Jagdeo built in his Pradoville 2 compound. At the time Mr Jagdeo was heading to Leguan with his People’s Progressive Party ahead of Friday’s Local Government Elections. He immediately cancelled his trip.
President Granger also extended condolences on behalf of the Government of Guyana to all family members during this time of bereavement.
Ms. Oma “Shanta” Jagdeo, who died unexpectedly, was the older sister of former President Jagdeo.
And the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has also expressed its deepest condolences to the family of Ms. Shanta Jagdeo on the “sad occasion of her passing.” In a comment on his sibling’s passing, Dr. Jagdeo said, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the death of my sister Shanta. She was the epitome of a sister. She was a mother, my confidante and friend. She took care of me all my life. I will miss her dearly.”
Shanta Jagdeo resided in the same compound in which Dr. Jagdeo resides at Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara. She has left two children and relatives to mourn her passing.
Specific condolences were conveyed to Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo by the Party’s General Secretary on behalf of the Central Committee and the entire membership of the PPP.
