With the news of Mark Vieira’s return seeping through the motor racing fraternity, racing fans must be rejoicing in delight that once again the best local racers will be on the starting grid for the National ‘Race of Champions’ Meet to be held on Sunday, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Vieira, who previously held the tag as the best driver in Guyana was absent from the local scene for around two years, but recently told Kaieteur Sport that his team is working hard to be ready for what is anticipated to be a rivetting showdown against those who have been active in the sport since his departure.
Among those Vieira will have to contend with are reigning caribbean and national champion Kristian Jeffrey and his father Kevin , Andrew King, Danny Persaud and Irfaan Kalamadeen just to name a few.
This category is usually regarded as the marquee one in local motor racing and with Vieira’s comeback it certainly adds more fuel to the division.
The Group 3 is another category that is laden with talented drivers and they too have added much excitement to the sport.
Drivers such as Ryan Rahaman, Danny Persaud and Rameez Mohamed are all young drivers who are thrilling to watch and rated amongst the best in the Group.
The Group 2 category is another group that provides lots of exciting races and drivers such as Chet Singh, Shairaz Roshandin Mohamed and Ryan Rahaman, who also campaigns in the category are sure to provide some exhilarating racing for the fans.
With a spot on the national team to compete in the season opening leg of the CMRC at stake, fans are assured that they will not be short changed, but rather witness some fascinating duels as competitors attempt to outdo each other for top honours.
A large crowd is anticipated and with most of the country’s top competitors already confirmed, it is shaing up to be a day that motor racing fans should not miss.
Meanwhile, among the sponsors on board to date are GTT and Fly Jamaica and admission to the races is $1000 for adults and $500 for children under the age of 12 years.
Starting time is 09:30 hrs.
