Insurance Giants Hand-In-Hand Insurance Company is the latest sponsor of the Young Warriors Cricket Club annual fundraiser, Mash Cup 2016. The tournament which was slated for Mash Day, Tuesday February 23, but was postponed, is now set for March 20 at the Cumberland Ground.
At the presentation held recently, Eshwarie Persaud, employee of the Mew Amsterdam Branch, said that her company is happy to once more be on board with this mega event particularly because proceeds from this event will go towards the further improvement of the lovely game of cricket. She added that the club continues to produce outstanding players with the latest being young batting star Shimron Hetmyer, who successfully led West Indies Under-19 team to World Cup glory in Bangladesh.
Collecting the sponsorship cheque on behalf of the club, the senior national opener Shimron Hetmyer thanked the company and said that sponsorship like these have made him what he is today. He encouraged other young and aspiring cricketers to work hard for there is lot to gain from being a successful cricketer. “Make sure that you also educate yourselves,” was the advice from the former Berbice High School student. In closing, Hetmyer pleaded to the Berbice community to support the insurance company who will in turn continue to support sports and other charities.

This event will form part of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebration with proceeds going towards further improvements to the club’s facilities and day to day running. In addition, funds will be allocated to three schools in the No19 to Gangaram area.
The first round will see:
Canefield vs Gangaram, YWCC vs Seawell, Buski vs Canje Pathfinders, No 19 ‘A’ vs No 19 ‘B’, Betsy Ground vs Goed Bananen Land and Rose Hall Estate vs No 7.
Incentives with the value of over $100,000 will be up for grabs with lots of gate prizes, musical entertainment and ball by ball update by Spongy to entertain.
