Seven months after Regent Multiplex Mall owner, Ganesh Ramlall, was gunned down in his home, police have held a Diamond, East Bank Demerara man for the July 2015 killing.
The suspect, a 35-year-old Diamond, East Bank Demerara resident known as ‘Banana,’ was arrested yesterday in Georgetown by a member of the Police Major Crimes Unit who recognized him.
Police have been trying to locate the suspect for some time, ever since they received reports that he played a major role in the attack.
Already facing charges for Ramlall’s murder are Lennox Roberts, 32, of 2279 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo and Fazeel Bacchus, 21, called ‘Javed’ of Lot 7 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara. Both accused are taxi drivers.
They were detained shortly after police raided a house at Craig, East Bank Demerara where they arrested several persons, including the suspected shooter of Ramlall.
Ramlall, also known as ‘Boyo’, had just returned to his La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, home on July 5, 2015, when four men confronted him near an outside washroom. The intruders shot the 48-year-old businessman in the head and chest before escaping with their victim’s jewellery and a wallet.
The bandits prematurely aborted the attack when the businessman’s wife and neighbours raised an alarm.
Ramlall’s relatives and friends responded by posting a $5M reward for information that would lead to the capture and prosecution of his killers.
