Tributes continue to pour in for former national netballer Angeline Dyer-McCarthy,
who passed away on Tuesday following a brief illness. Yesterday, Kaieteur Sport solicited comments from University of Guyana Sports Organiser Lavern Fraser about the late Dyer-McCarthy, who would have played her entire career with her both as a member of the national team and Emanie Netball Club.
According to Fraser, McCarthy started playing netball at age 12 when she was then a student of St. George’s Community High. Fraser added that because of her ability and accuracy at scoring goals, it set her apart from the other netball goal scorers.
The former Captain of the national team disclosed that Dyer-McCarthy first represented Guyana in 1998 at the Caribbean Netball Championship in St Lucia and remained a member of the national set up until 2011, the last year of Guyana’s participation in the regional event.
Fraser further informed that Dyer-McCarthy was a founder member of the most successful netball team in Guyana (Emanie) and still holds the distinction of being the only goal scorer to net 100 goals in a single game.
Dyer-McCarthy’s love for sport was such that she volunteered her services as a table official for basketball games and until her passing was an active member of the Petra Organisation, a Group that organises sports events.
Emanie Netball Club wishes to convey its deep condolences to the husband, family and friends of the late Angeline Dyer-McCarthy.
