Uitvlugt Warriors prevailed over Beavers via penalty kicks 4-2 while Pouderoyen
needled Stewartville to earn semi final spots in the Den Amstel Mash Cup 2016 which kicked off on Wednesday night last at the Den Amstel Community Centre, West Coast Demerara.
Competition should have gotten underway on Sunday last but the Referee did not give the go ahead citing poor lighting even though the teams had agreed to play despite.
Action got underway on Wednesday night but the lights were again a challenge in the second game between Uitvlugt and Beavers; the northern lights going out with the score locked 0-0.
The Referees consulted with the team Captains who agreed that penalty kicks would decide the winner, Uitvlugt prevailed 4-2 on account of goals from Kevin Duke, Carlisle Carroll, Daniel Floy and Shornol Smith.
Pouderoyen eaked out a 1-0 win over Stewartville, Addasaffi Skeete rising above the Stewartville defense to head home in the 52nd minute. The club is dedicating the win to the Family of the Late Assistant Commissioner of Police Balram Persaud who was the Pouderoyen FC President.
Uitvlugt will face the winner of Sunday’s opening match between Bagotville and Eagles in the first semi final while Pouderoyen earns a date with the winner of Sunday’s feature clash between host team Den Amstel and Wales United.
