The sporting fraternity was plunged into mourning on Tuesday following the death of former national netballer, teacher and Petra Organisation member Angeline Dyer-McCarty, who passed away, at the Woodlands Hospital.
According to reports reaching Kaieteur News, Dyer-McCarty was rushed to the medical institution last Sunday after complaining of feeling unwell and was subsequently ordered to be hospitalised for surgery, before she finally succumbed.
Petra Organisation Director Marlan Cole speaking on behalf of the Organisation about her passing said that she will be sorely missed, informing that the late Dyer-McCarty was an integral member, who performed her duties fearlessly and fairly and was not afraid to challenge even her senior counterparts.
“Angeline represented Petra Organisation very well, she was fearless and outspoken and stood against wrong whoever it may have emanated from as well as advocated for the voiceless on many issues,” Cole told this newspaper via telephone yesterday.
According to Cole, Dyer-McCarty’s association with the Organisation commenced in 2012 during the staging of the inaugural Courts Pee Wee Schools Football Competition and until her demise was an active member whose recent assignment was undertaken at the present Milo Under-20 Schools Football Competition where she acted as a broadcaster, announcing the fixtures and acutioning students to be vigilant with their personal effects.
Cole, one of the founders of the Petra Organisation added that Dyer-McCarty’s service was outstanding and exceptional and her straightforward attitude was a feature that they had always embraced and supported.
He further staed that her absence will no doubt leave a noticeable void in the Organisation, a development that they will struggle to grapple with in the near future.
Cole extended heartfelt sympathy to the husband, relatives and friends of the late Angeline Dyer-McCarty and urged them to stay strong during this period of difficulty.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur Sport also took the opportunity to extend condolences to the entire Dyer-McCarty family, especially for her outstanding service to sport and the teaching profession.
