New Opportunity Corps (NOC) were crowned champions of the South Essequibo Cricket Committee 40-over tournament after defeating New Opportunity Corps by 49 runs on Sunday at Pomona. Batting first, NOC managed 156 all out. David Williams struck four fours in scoring 56, while Akini Adams got 33 (3×4). Javed Azeez claimed 3-32, Norman Fredericks, Husbird Thomas and Wazim Kamal had two each. Jaguars were bowled out for 107 in 23 overs in reply.
Neiland Cadogan bagged 5-19 from six overs to earn the man-of-the-match award while Pedrico Abrams claimed 3-28 and Akini Adams 2-18. NOC pocketed a trophy and $20,000, while Jaguars took home a trophy and $15,000.
The committee will be staging another tournament on Sunday. Zone A includes, Aurora Knight Riders, Hiberina, Top Shatter and NOC U19 while Zone B comprises of Golden Fleece, Invaders Masters, NOC and Rising Stars.
In the opening fixtures Top Shatters will play Aurora Knight Riders at10:00hrs and Jaguars will play NOC U19 at 14:00hrs at Pomona, while Golden Fleece will host Rising Stars.
