Yesterday’s session at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), Ministry of Finance, marked the first since budget 2016 was passed last month.
Among the contracts that bids were opened for was one under the Ministry of Public Health, for the supply of drugs under the National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP).
The NTP is under the remit of the Public Health Ministry’s Department of Disease Control, providing technical guidance and services necessary to combat Tuberculosis, other lung diseases and respiratory infections in Guyana.
The programme uses direct observation methods to confirm suspected Tuberculosis. It also ensures that those most at risk get access to support services that can prevent the infection. Currently, the programme provides services through chest clinics in every region.
There were also bids for the supply and delivery of laboratory consumables to the Ministry of Public Health. Bidding for the project was split into two lots, with two foreign companies among the bidders.
And finally, there were bids for the supply and delivery of radiology supplies for the regional radiology department. There were five bidders for this project, including one from Trinidad and Tobago.
Meanwhile, under the Ministry of Public Security, bids were opened for consultancy services for its building projects scheduled for 2016. Only one bid price was provided, as the others indicated their percentage per project or percentage of total construction cost.
In addition, there was just one bid opened for a project under the Ministry of Communities, which was aimed at rehabilitation work to potable water wells at Cotton Tree, Berbice, Region No. 6. The engineer’s estimate for this project was $24.2M.
Also under the Ministry of Communities, Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), there were bids for the supply and delivery of water meter boxes, which GWI monitors for water usage records. The engineer’s estimate was $54M.
