Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday ordered a sixty year-old man to post $250,000 bail, after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
John Zephyr is alleged to have driven motorcar HC 4627 in a manner dangerous to the public on February 13, at Brutus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, causing the death of Rudival Azore, 63, of Lot 37 Evans Phillips Park, Agricola. It was further alleged that on the same day, while being the driver of the motorcar that was involved in an accident, he failed to report the accident to Police.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones objected to bail citing the nature and gravity of the charges. However, his objections were overruled by the Magistrate.
The matter was adjourned until March 21.
According to reports, Azore was struck down around 07:30hrs on the day in question, while he was riding to work. He sustained injuries about his body and was admitted to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Azore was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed last Friday.
