An Attorney for Richard Stanton who is currently on remand for the murder of Patricia Sanasie has made
an application to the court for his client’s file to be reviewed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Attorney Mark Waldron is contending that the case against Stanton, 39, of Princes Street, Lodge, should be nolle prosequi because the prosecution is not in possession of sufficient evidence to link Stanton to the crime.
At a recent court hearing, Waldron stood before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and argued that there is not enough identification evidence. Waldron had explained that the police’s description of the person who is alleged to have shot and killed Sanasie is vague. He said that the evidence leaves much doubt in the prosecution’s case.
Additionally, Waldron also requested that Police Prosecutor, David Goodridge, disclose any form of identification he has of the alleged shooter to his client.
Prosecutor Goodridge had indicated that he would seek advice from his superiors on the way forward. This matter will be called again on March 1, in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court for the continuation of a Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
Stanton is accused of killing the woman on January 12, 2015 at 129 Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara. It was reported that Stanton was positively identified by Sanasie’s daughter who flew into Guyana to identify him.
At the time of her mother’s death the young woman was in the car with her mother. Sanasie, who was the wife of Deokaran Sanasie, owner of Ram’s Auto Sales, was riddled with bullets by gunmen clad in black. She was shot to the chest, abdomen, neck and groin. The shooting occurred almost a year after her husband survived a similar attempt on his life.
