All the top cyclists in the country are expected to throng to Berbice today for the Courts Guyana 50th Independence anniversary cycle race.
With the cycling season in full swing the event is expected to be hotly contested for the lucrative prizes that will be on offer. The event dubbed “the Courts Independence 50 miles cycle road race,” Is set to pedal off from in front of the Courts store at Main and St Ann Street in New Amsterdam, proceed to Nand Persaud Business Complex up the Corentyne before returning to finish at its place of origin.
Female and U16 cyclists will pedal from the No10 miles pole to the finishing line. The BMX cyclists will race from the Canje Turn to the finishing line at Courts.
Starting time is 10:00 hrs and the cyclists are expected to be sent on their way by Regional Chairman Region No6 David Armogan.
There will be prizes for the first six finishers, the top three juniors, the first three females, first three U16 riders and the first four BMX riders to cross the finishing line. There will also be eight sprint point prizes up for grabs.
The presentation ceremony will be held immediately after the completion of the event which is organized by the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC).
Cyclists are reminded that they must ride in their club colours. On Thursday Courts Berbice Branch Manager Stanley McKenzie presented the sponsorship cheque to coordinator Randolph Roberts at the entity’s Berbice Branch in New Amsterdam. (Samuel Whyte)
