Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded a mason from Linden to prison, after he appeared in the
Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a drug trafficking charge.
Justin Percival, 34, of 394 Moraballi Street, Retrieve, Linden, is accused of having 463 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession for the purpose of trafficking at Oronoque Drive, McKenzie, Linden.
Percival, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charge, but implored the Magistrate to grant him bail. He claimed that he was not found with the illicit substance. Instead, he alleged that the police picked him up and took him to the station.
However, the Magistrate explained to the defendant that she would be unable to admit him to bail because of the amount of drug he was allegedly found with. Percival did not react agreeably after hearing this and loudly “sucked his teeth” while he was being escorted out of the courtroom.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not relate any facts about what transpired on the day in question to the court. This matter will continue on March 8, at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
