It had to be the biggest joke in Guyanese politics in decades. Interestingly, it came on the heels on the celebration of Republic Day. It was Donald Ramotar’s way of laughing at the Republic and its citizens. Ramotar told the press the PPP Government had nothing to do with the murders of Sash Sawh and Ronald Waddell and had no relation with Roger Khan.
But what was funny, he stopped short of saying that the PPP never committed any violation once it was in power. Ramotar stopped short of saying that the PPP Government which he led as President for three years was as innocent as the baby sleeping in his/her cot. He didn’t say it but he meant it.
If interviewed again, Ramotar will continue to deny any wrongdoing during the PPP’s long reign. Mr. Ramotar is seeking to oust Clement Rohee to claim the title of leading clown of the PPP. Here are the graphic comments in Mr. Ramotar’s emanations. First, evidence shows that the spy equipment Roger Khan used was purchased by then Health Minister Leslie Ramsammy and was a sensitive machine only sold to governments.
Secondly, Sash Sawh’s brother-in-law implicated the PPP Government in Sash’s murder and sought the assistance of the Canadian Government to get an inquiry going. Thirdly, Ramotar said the PPP had nothing to gain from Ronald Waddell’s murder. Waddell was an implacable opponent of the PPP. The PPP had more to gain than anyone else from his death.
What is foolish about this explanation is that supporters of President Burnham can use Ramotar’s methodology and say the same thing – what did Burnham have to gain from the death of Walter Rodney? It would be interesting to hear Ramotar’s views on that.
I now put the question to Ramotar. What do you think Burnham had to gain from Rodney’s murder? Fourthly, during Ramotar’s presidency, a Rodney-type murder was committed in that Courtney Crum-Ewing was shot to death while he was directly engaged in non-violent election campaigning. Under the Burnham Government, Rodney was killed in circumstances far more complex in the ways PPP critics were gunned down. Waddell was shot in front of his gate.
Crum Ewing was shot while he was campaigning for the 2015 elections. What does Ramotar have to say about this?
I dedicate one of favourite songs of all time and one of my favourite reggae songs to Donald Ramotar. It is sung by Peter Tosh and recently covered with additional lyrics by Irish singer, Sinead O’Conner. The title is Downpresser Man. I believe like Bharrat Jagdeo, Ramotar should be investigated for criminal abuse of power.
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
All along that day
You gonna run to the sea
But the sea will be boiling
When you run to the sea
The sea will be boiling
The sea will be boiling
All along that day
You gonna run to the rocks
The rocks will be melting
When you run to the rocks
The rocks will be melting
The rocks will be melting
All that day
So I said
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
All along that day
You drink your big champagne and laugh
You drink your big champagne and laugh
You drink your big champagne and laugh
All along that day
I wouldn’t like to be a flea
Under your collar man
I wouldn’t like to be a flea
Under your collar man
I wouldn’t like to be a flea
Under your collar man
All along that day
You can run but you can’t hide
You can run but you can’t hide
You can run but you can’t hide
Telling you all along that day
You gonna run to the Lord
Beggin’ to hide you
You gonna run to the Lord
Beggin’ to hide you
You gonna run to the Lord
Beggin’ to hide you
You gonna run to Jah
Beggin’ to hide you
All, all along that day
And I said Downpresser Man
Where you gonna run to
Where you gonna run to Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
I said all along
All along, along that day Downpresser man
You can’t run, you can’t bribe Jah-Jah
Can’t call him in a bar
Fe can drink some
Devil soup
Can’t bribe him around a corner
Can’t test him faith
Downpresser man
Downpresser man
Where you gonna run to
Downpresser man
You can’t bribe no one
Them no want no money
Them run’f money
That money get funny
