Opener Sachin Singh stroked a polished century to guide Demerara to a three-wicket victory
over Berbice, while Essequibo defeated the GCB President’s XI by 65 runs when the Guyana Cricket Board/Dave West Indian Exports Guy-NY Inter-County U15 tournament continued yesterday.
The left-handed Singh who was named man-of-the-match anchored Demerara innings with fluent stroke play after they were set 263 to win at Demerara Cricket Club. Singh shared in a first wicket stand of 65 with Shoaib Shaw to give his team a bright start before Shaw was bowled by Nigel Deodat for 17. Yeudistir Persaud was then bowled by Antonio Kempadoo for seven before Singh and Andrew Samaroo stabilised the chase with a third wicket stand of 65. Singh played with maturity that belied his age, hitting twelve fours and six sixes before he was dismissed for 120 off 108 balls. Samaroo who timed the ball well went for 33 with three fours and one six while Dwayne Dick scored a rapid 32 (4×4) as Demerara finished on 266-7 in 44 overs. Extras contributed 38; Antonio Kempadoo and Marvan Prashad took two wickets each.
Earlier, opener Fawaz Gafoor struck a composed 73 not out to lead Berbice batting. Gafoor hit fourteen fours and shared in second wicket stand of 108 with Marvan Prashad who scored 40 inclusive of two fours and one six. Jevon Shultz beefed up the innings in the latter stages, smashing four fours and five sixes in a robust 66, while Seon Glasgow made 26. Daniel Mootoo claimed 3-29.
At Wales, Essequibo posted a respectable 182-6, taking first strike. Azim Mohamed slammed 72 not out, while Lance Roberts scored 24 and Bumeshwar Ramkissoon 18 not out. Extras assisted with 37 as Gaury Ramesh and Davendra Ramdahin picked up two wickets each. The President’s XI were bowled out for 117 in 44 overs in reply. Brandon Jaikarran got 21 and Abdul Ramsammy 17; Extras resulted in 40. Amos Sarwan captured 3-16 and Roberts 2-19.
