A six-member team that represented Guyana at the St Vincent & The Grenadines Junior
Squash Open 2016 which was held in St Vincent from February 19 – 21, returned home with three golds, five silvers and three bronze medals.
According to a release from the Guyana Squash Association, the tournament was a World Squash Federation Junior Circuit Event and the players who represented Guyana were Taylor Fernandes, Larissa Wiltshire, Makeda Harding, Daniel Islam, Anthony Islam and Shomari Wiltshire.
Winning golds were Taylor Fernandes who defeated Larissa Wiltshire in the Girls under-19 final by three games to one, Makeda Harding who played unbeaten to win the girls under-15 round robin event and Shomari Wiltshire, who defeated Alex Stewart (Barbados) by three games to love to win the Boys Under-13 event.
Winning silver medals were Larissa Wiltshire in the Mixed Under-19 event losing to Jason Doyle (St Vincent) in the final three games to nil, Larissa Wiltshire in the Girls Under-19 event, Makeda Harding in the Girls Under-17 final losing to Thandi Myers (St Vincent) by three games to one and Shomari Wiltshire in both the Boys Under-15 and 17 finals losing to Kai Bentick (St Vincent) by three games to one and three games to love respectively.
Bronze medal winners were Taylor Fernades, mixed Under-19, and Daniel Islam, Boys Under-15 and Under 19.
The team was accompanied by David Fernandes, manager, Garfield Wiltshire, coach and Juanita Fernandes, chaperone.
