Former General Secretary of the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA), Deion Nurse,
will contest for a place on the executive committee of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation when that entity stages its electoral congress in the Dominican Republic from February 25-27.
Mr. Nurse and his successor, Seon Erskine, leave Guyana tomorrow morning to participate in the forum and the former official, already a popular personality within the region and the first Guyanese to be contesting since the sport became a member of the World Federation in 1940, is optimistic of clinching the coveted spot.
Mr. Nurse’s participation is being made possible through financial support of several individuals and entities including the CEO of the P and P Insurance Brokers and Consultants Ltd, Bish Panday, Chris Correia of Trans Guyana Airways, Morse Archer of Cevon’s Waste Management, Raj Singh of Raj Singh Insurance Brokers & Risk Management Consultants Inc and John Fernandes Ltd. Mr. Erskine received support from the National Sports Commission.
