Youths particularly will soon benefit from a sporting facility which will be constructed
at Affiance on the Essequibo Coast. It is however not clear why the Village Affiance was identified but it is noted that the Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud is a product of that community. The initiative is a joint venture between the police and residents to establish a relationship of partnership, in the interest of warding off or preventing criminal activities among young people.
During a meeting at Affiance with members of that community, Persaud told residents that the construction of the facility would be a collaborative effort between residents and a business personnel who would donate the materials to construct the building which would cater for a gym and other indoor activities. Residents would, however , contribute their time voluntarily towards the construction of the building.
Persaud said children need a strong foundation which incorporates, the opportunity to attend school, church and a comparable family relationship. Community participation is also critical for the development of a child. Persaud stressed that the police force continues to streamline and offset numerous social programmes nationwide.
The residents have extended their gratitude for the sport facility.
Present at the meeting were Commander of “ G” Division, Kevin Adonis, Deputy, Mr. Pilgrim and other ranks of the Anna Regina police station. (Yannason Duncan)
