Dear Editor,
I am publicly appealing to the Commissioner of Police, the Management of the City of Georgetown or whoever has the authority to bring order to the 31/32 bus park, to quickly put measures in place to address the total breakdown in law and order that occurs there during the nights.
As soon as it gets dark all hell seem to break loose with the minibus drivers at that park. The issue that directly affects me is the blockade of the carriageway that runs between the Stabroek market and the fire station.
The minibus drivers would park in the roadway soliciting passengers and bring the traffic to a standstill. It was so terrible on Thursday night (18 Feb 2016) that I had to call 911.
Very shortly afterwards a traffic cop appeared and got the traffic to crawl forward a bit and he then disappeared. Thankfully I was able get out of the minibus blockade not long after.
Editor, this situation is totally unacceptable. There is a huge paved tarmac for these buses to park and await their turn to load!
However, the public has to suffer as a result of the drivers’ selfishness and disregard for law and order. As Guyana celebrates its 50th year of independence this is surely not the type of spectacle we want visitors to see and experience.
