A part of its observation of the 50 Independence anniversary celebrations, Courts Guyana has organised a 50 miles cycle road race in Berbice. The event is slated for next Sunday and all the top cyclists in the country are expected to travel to Berbice to participate in the event which is dubbed “the Courts Independence 50 miles cycle road race.”
The event which is open to cyclists throughout Guyana is set to begin in front of the Court store in New Amsterdam at Main and St Ann Street, proceed to Nand Persaud Business Complex up the Corentyne before returning to finish at the place of origin.
Female and U16 cyclists will pedal from the No.10 miles pole to the finish line. There is also a race for BMX cyclists and they will ride from the Canje Turn to the finish line at Courts.
Starting time is 10:00 hrs and the cyclists are expected to be sent on their way by Regional Chairman Region No6 David Armogan.
There will be prizes for the first six finishers, the top three juniors, the first three females, first three U16 riders and the first four BMX riders to cross the finishing line. There will also be eight sprint point prizes up for grabs.
A grueling event is anticipated.
The presentation ceremony will be held immediately after the completion of the event.
The event is organized by the Flying Ace Cycle Club and coordinated by Coach Randolph Roberts. Cyclists are reminded that they must ride in their club colours.
