Berbice and Demerara recorded victories when the Guyana Cricket Board/ Dave West Indian Exports Guy-NY Inter-County U15 50-over tournament commenced yesterday.
Playing at Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda, Berbice overcame the President’s XI by eight wickets. Batting first, the President’s XI managed 124 all out in 45.1 overs with Daniel Dharamdat scoring 29 and Abdul Ramsammy 20; Aaron Beharry claimed 3-10, Nigel Deodat 2-14 and Seon Glasgow 2-26.
Berbice were set a revised target of 105 off 36 overs after a lengthy rain delay, achieved victory with 15 overs to spare, losing two wickets in the process. Carl Gilgeous led with 36 while Jerron France got 22 and Glasgow 18 not out.
At DCC, Demerara beat Essequibo by 112 runs. Demerara took first strike and scored 256-6 in 50 overs. Shoaib Sham struck a composed 79 while Sachin Singh hit a fluent 50, Yeudistir Persaud made 40 and Dwayne Dick 28; Amon Sarwan snared 3-28. Essequibo responded with 144-6 in 50 overs. Lance Roberts slammed 42, while Mark Fredericks got 19, Sarwan 15, Sheldon Charles 14, Salwin Williams 11 and Bumeshwar Ramkissoon nine. Daniel Mootoo captured 4-26.
The competition continues today with Berbice facing Demerara at DCC and Essequibo playing the GCB President’s XI at Wales.
